CHETEK (WQOW) – You could own the world’s largest floating bobber, and the Northwoods’ only drive-in movie theater that comes with it.

Stardust Drive-In movie theater in Chetek is the only drive-in theater in the area, and owner Nick Meyer is now looking for someone else to keep it part of the community.

“I think it’s something the community loves and needs,” Meyer said.

Meyer has owned Stardust for over four years and is now looking to sell the property.

“I’ve always decided to sell the drive-in, I have a five year plan and we’re sitting at four-and-a-half years, so it just makes good business sense to put up now, because I know there’s probably only about five to ten people in America who want to own and operate a drive-in movie theater and can afford to do so,” Meyer said.

He said he doesn’t want to see that movie magic leave the area, and will only sell Stardust to someone with a similar vision to what he has. That includes keeping the space open as a drive-in theater.

“I want to see it become and stay a drive-in,” Meyer said. “But more importantly I see this place as a resort, maybe a campground, a wedding venue.”

Stardust features two movie screens, games, a playground, and a private home. The 19.9 acre property is listed at $749,000 on Trillium Commercial Realty. It’s the only drive-in theater in Wisconsin’s Northwoods and according to Meyer, one of only about 300 left in the country. Meyer said it’s become a unique part of the Chetek community.

“There’s not a lot of nightly attractions that families can go out and do,” he said.

Meyer said he will not be closing Stardust, and will keep running it until he finds a buyer who will keep the movies playing into the future.

“Having a family-friendly place that you can come out to, ride the circus wagon train, play on the playground equipment, and just take yourself out of the rat-race of today and come back to yesterday and just enjoy family and hanging out and bonding,” Meyer said.
