PETER, Minnesota – After 50 years building his business, Ed Allen is finally ready to hang up his overalls and sell his company, Ed Allen Designs.

Ed Allen Designs specializes in procuring raw logs throughout the U.S., then mills them into lumber, dries the lumber, and uses the material to manufacture high-end custom tables. The company is fully integrated from forest to furniture. Ed Allen Designs primarily serves customers in the Midwest but has shipped tables throughout the U.S.

This is a rare opportunity to acquire a turnkey yard, shop, and showroom with plenty of raw inventory to last for years to come.

The sale includes:

  • A fully equipped woodshop and showroom, including a sawmill, dry kiln, CNC router and other machines, and all the requisite yard equipment.
  • A fully stocked log yard, including a complete inventory of thousands of raw logs and cut slabs.

Ed has offered to be a part of the transaction – if desired – to support a smooth transition for the new owner.

Ed Allen Designs sources large, high quality, highly figured logs in species such as American black walnut, highly figured live edge maple burls from the West Coast, and other species of logs, such as red and American elm, red and white oak, and ash. After they arrive at the Minnesota yard, the logs are sawed into slabs on a band mill that can cut up to 66 inches. The slabs are tagged and air dried on sticks for about a year before being kiln dried to the appropriate moisture content.

Ed Allen Designs prefers to include customers in the furniture design process to ensure they are 100 percent satisfied with the results. Ed likes to take customers through the slab inventory and help them select the perfect pieces for their projects. The slabs are flattened and smoothed on both faces on a CNC machine.

Ed uses proprietary processes to manufacture the highest quality live edge or straight edge tables and countertops. Ed Allen Designs has perfected a technique that combines beautiful hardwood and colorful, resilient epoxy to create amazing, one-of-a-kind, custom-made tables that complement and augment a customer’s home, cabin or condo. These pieces are works of art, and customers talk about handing them down to future generations.

Ed Allen Designs also sells raw slabs to hobbyists and small woodworking businesses. The company has thousands to choose from and specializes in filling everything from individual needs to large multi-piece orders for designers, home remodelers, or home or cabin builders. If Ed doesn’t have it, he can find it.

Following in the footsteps of his great-grandfather, grandfather and father, Ed has spent a lifetime in the timber business, buying and selling logs both domestically and internationally. His experience and contacts give a potential buyer a significant advantage in sourcing logs.

Ed Allen Designs has an inventory of high-quality logs and other material to build custom live edge and epoxy tables. Ed believes that every tree should have a second life. In pursuing that philosophy, he has developed access to some of the largest and finest hardwoods in the country. The company has a plentiful supply of sustainably sourced classic American hardwoods.
