COCHRAN, Ga. (WGXA) — The Cochran Motor Speedway is for sale. A representative for track owner, Chris Martin, told WGXA News the decision was made to announce during the race season to allow prospective buyers an opportunity to observe the facility in use versus being idle between seasons. Martin has not placed any timeline on the sale of the business or property. The track will operate as scheduled on Sunday, May 26., with the running of the Memorial Day Shoot-Out featuring local Bomber division drivers battling for a $20,000 winner’s purse.
Martin announced his intentions of selling the track on a website.
“It has been a blessing and a curse owning this track,” Martin explained. “There have been some great moments and then there have been some times where I wondered why I opened the gates. It is not a business for the faint of heart.”
Martin hopes that someone with a passion for dirt track racing will come along and infuse some new spirit into the operation.
“The track needs someone who can dedicate more time to operating, promoting, maintaining and developing the business,” Martin added. “The right person could really make this place go.”
The speedway encompasses nearly sixty acres including the 3/8ths mile dirt track that hosts this weekend’s Memorial Day Shoot-Out and the recently opened 1/5th mile go kart track. There are four concession stands that will come complete and ready to operate with fryer, refrigerators, freezers, grills, warmers and stainless steel tables. All of the equipment used to prepare the tracks and operate a race night are also included (listed below).

The Cochran Motor Speedway is located at 241 Jim Wimberly Road.
So far, there has not been any insight as to how this announcement may affect the remainder of this season’s schedule of events.
