After 35 years of wings, subs, pizzas and strombolis, Diane Shearer, owner of the Westgate Restaurant and Lounge in York, is ready to retire and has listed the business for sale.

The shop started in 1985 as a franchise called Subs Unlimited. Shearer was the last of the four original owners. A few years later she decided to opt out of the franchise and ran what’s been known as the Westgate Restaurant and Lounge for the last three decades, along with family members, including her three children who’ve helped run the business.

“It’s been my baby, but it’s time,” said Shearer.

And while her regulars are in a panic, many running down to grab their last order of wings or stromboli, Shearer said that the new owner will be encouraged to continue the menu and the restaurant’s legacy.

The listing, currently handled by Bennett Williams Commercial Real Estate, includes the 3,923 square foot space, the business itself, FF&E, and an “R” Liquor License.

Once the sale is complete, Shearer’s retirement plans include traveling to her bucket list destinations. A hoped for first on the list: Ireland.
